Ask and You Shall Receive: Manifestation & The Power of Action

At Soul Yoga & Growth in Gorey, I talk a lot about intention. About clarity. About learning how to listen to yourself properly.

There’s a phrase that keeps coming up everywhere — in religion, spirituality, personal development, even business:

Ask and you shall receive.

And honestly? I think we’ve misunderstood it.

Because it sounds passive. Like you just ask… and wait.

But that’s not how it works.

Manifestation isn’t about sitting back and hoping life rearranges itself. It’s about asking clearly — and then moving in the direction of what you asked for.

It’s participation.

It Shows Up In Every Tradition

The phrase “ask and you shall receive” comes from the The Bible — “Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened.”

But notice the words.

Ask.

Seek.

Knock.

They’re all actions.

In yoga philosophy, especially in the Bhagavad Gita, the teaching is similar. You’re encouraged to act in alignment with your path, to do your work, and then release attachment to the outcome.

Even in Islam there’s the teaching: trust in God — but tie your camel.

Across traditions, the message is the same:

Have faith.

But move your feet.

Why It Actually Works

There’s something psychological about this too.

When you ask for something clearly, your brain starts filtering differently. You notice opportunities. You take risks you wouldn’t have taken. You become more resilient to rejection.

Recently I saw a woman on TikTok talk about committing to 1000 rejections in a year.

Not 1000 wins.

1000 rejections.

I thought it was brilliant.

Because it flips the narrative. Rejection becomes proof you’re trying. Proof you’re asking.

You can’t receive what you never ask for.

And you can’t grow if you refuse to stretch.

My January Experiment

This January, I leaned into this properly.

I asked for things.

I sent the emails.

I followed up.

I spoke clearly about where I want Soul to go.

I focused on the bigger picture instead of playing small.

And things moved.

Not because I manifested by wishing.

Because I worked.

Because I asked.

Because I stopped being vague about what I wanted.

“Ask and you shall receive” only works when it’s paired with effort.

Work and you’ll see results.

Ask and you increase your chances of receiving.

It’s simple. But it requires courage.

Where Manifestation Goes Wrong

Online, manifestation sometimes gets reduced to vision boards and affirmations.

Those things are helpful. I use them.

But they don’t replace action.

Manifestation without movement becomes fantasy.

Action without clarity becomes burnout.

The balance is intention + aligned effort + openness.

That’s it.

If You Want To PracticeThis

Start here:

Get specific about what you want.

Ask for it.

Expect some no’s.

Keep going anyway.

Track your courage instead of just your wins.
